Arnt Johansen asked:

1. Make sure you have all the tools you need. You will need the following tools and materials:

A driver or ratchet with an 8mm socket for the plastic cover under the car.

A 13mm wrench or ratchet/socket for the drain plug.

A 3/8 ratchet for the oil filter housing cap assembly.

A medium extension for removing the oil filter housing cap.

An oil filter socket to remove the oil filter housing cap.

A pick or small screwdriver to remove the o-rings from the oil filter housing cap.

Depending on your car 7-9 quarts of synthetic motor oil (Mercedes Benz recommends Mobil1 0w40 which is a very good oil).

A high quality fleece oil filter make sure this is not paper. Paper filters can break apart. Use an original Mercedes Benz filter or any OEM like Mann or Hengst, they are all fleece.

Crush washer for oil drain plug

A couple of rags in case of spillage for cleanup.

Container to drain oil into.

Container to put used oil filter in.

2. Drive your car until your engine comes up to normal operating temperature. This is important because then more oil can be drained and it will drain faster.

3. Make sure the car is secure by putting it in park and the parking brake on if you are going to be using a jack.

4. Open the hood. When standing in front of your car it is located on the right side of the engine. Open the oil filler cap located on the valve cover as well.

Unscrew the oil filter housing cap using a ratchet with an extension connected to the oil filter cap tool.

Do not remove it quite yet we will do that later, this will allow oil to drain out of the old oil filter.

5. Now you will have to go underneath your car. If you are using a jack make sure your car is secured by jack stands as well.

The plastic plate(s) under the car covering the oil pan is secured by 4-10 screws depending on your car.

Remove it and put it to the side.

6. Time to drain the oil.

With your 13mm wrench or ratchet you can now remove the drain plug.Be careful the oil will be extremely hot! If you have an ML on some models the oil drain plug is in front of some suspension components. I use a piece of cardboard usually from the carton of oil. Bend it in half so it looks like a V and wedge it so the oil pours onto the cardboard and then into the drain pan. This will save a lot of cleanup later.

Make sure the container you are draining into can hold at least 10 quarts (2.5 gallons).

7. While the oil is draining we can now remove the oil filter housing cap. When removing place a rag around the filter and place it into a container to catch any excess oil. Let the oil drain for a good 10-15 minutes and then replace the drain plug, crush washer if it is bad, and the plastic cover. You can let the oil drain while doing these next steps.

8. You can now remove the oil filter. You may have to twist the filter back and forth to remove it.

9. Time to remove the old o-rings.

4 cylinder

Typical 6 and 8 cylinder.

You will need your pick (I like a 45 degree pick) or small screwdriver. Most vehicles have 4 o-rings on the oil filter housing cap assembly. These will have to be removed and replaced with the new ones that come with the new oil filter. Make sure the o-rings are correctly fitted inside their grooves and are not twisted. Make sure all the o-rings are removed and that you do not put a new o-ring on top of an old one. This can create a huge messy oil leak because it is high pressure!

10. Now it is time to put the new oil filter on the cap assembly. It will be a tight fit and a little force may be needed to get it seated all the way in the assembly.

OEM filter Mercedes part number 000 180 26 09 fits most 6 and 8 cylinder cars 98 and up.

The new oil filter will be marked with 2 lines.

The filter can be installed from either side, but one of the lines needs to be lined up with the bottom of the cap.

Filter is not all the way in.

Now it is ready to be installed.

11. The oil can be poured in now.

Pouring in oil.

If you have not replaced the drain plug do so now. Don’t forget to put the plastic cover back either. Oil can be filled into the oil filter housing and/or the oil filler hole in the valve cover. 7 - 7.5 quarts is usually a safe amount to fill for 6 and 8 cylinder engines.

12. The oil filter assembly can now be installed. The oil filler cap can now also be installed.

13. Start up the car now for about 15 seconds and turn it back off. This will fill the oil filter with oil and enable you to get an accurate oil level measurement. Let the oil settle for a couple minutes.

14. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it off and put it back in the tube. Pull it out again and check the oil level. If the oil level is good start up the car and let it warm up to operating temperature. It is very important to measure oil level at hot level because synthetic oil expands much more than conventional oil. Turn the car off and measure the oil level again.

The oil level when hot should not be above the maximum line. It is better to have too little oil than too much. A good level is about 3/4 full as pictured above.

15. That it! It may be a little more work than other cars but after a few times you will get the hang of it. You can save some time by installing the oil filter o-rings while oil is being poured into the car. Depending on how you drive it is recommended you change your oil every 5000-8000 miles. Lots of stop and go, city, or towing replace your oil more often. Lots of highway driving you can change oil less frequently.

Roy J Walker asked:

Coconut oil has great healing power and health benefits. Many experts have approved the use of coconut oil for treating various ailments. By taking a few table spoons of coconut oil everyday, you can get all the health advantages of coconut oil. Many companies sell virgin and extra virgin coconut oil apart from ordinary coconut oil. Though these oils have no significant difference in terms of composition, buying virgin coconut oil is always better because you get all healthy nutrients only in virgin oils.

There is no standard in case of coconut oil products, so nothing more can be expected from extra virgin oil. When you buy coconut oil products, make sure that it is virgin and organic.

For skin care and hair care, several coconut oil products can be found on the internet. For several years, coconut oil in its natural form has been used in the Indian sub continent to maintain healthy and nourishing looks. Now, you can find the benefits of coconut oil in the coconut oil products. Science and nature when combined together can give you great benefits.

So, modern day coconut oil products may help you greatly if you choose the right products. For hair care, many products including shampoos and hair oils can be found containing coconut. Skin care creams and soaps contain coconut oil to give a soft glowing skin.

Among the several coconut oil products, weight loss products are particularly more popular. Modern claims state that fats in coconut oil are converted directly into energy and they are not stored as fats. This ensures that you get enormous energy from coconut oil and you won’t accumulate more fat.

When you are energetic, your metabolism works much faster providing you more opportunities to burn fat faster. The legitimacy of coconut oil products greatly depend on the manufacturers. Even though coconut oil products can be used for weight loss, you should not trust everything found on the internet.

Finding the right coconut oil products has always been difficult with so many manufacturers in the market. Some manufacturers even sell ordinary coconut oil with virgin label. In the case of olive oil, there are certain standards that have to be followed for using virgin label. But for coconut oil, there are no standards and hence, consumers are unable to differentiate good products from bad ones. Generally, coconut is available readily in tropical areas and buying coconut oil products from tropical countries can be far more beneficial.

There is no need to preserve and protect coconut oil products because coconut oil has greater shelf life naturally. When you buy good quality products, you can keep the oil under room temperature for several months. Some virgin coconut oil products can be kept for even one year.

When the smell and taste of coconut oil products are similar real fresh coconut, then you can certainly believe that the product is virgin. Ordinary coconut oil products will have a bland taste and smell as the refining process removes natural smell and flavor.

Tim LaGanke, Jr. asked:

Even with all the technological advances that the automobile industry has developed to make vehicles safer and more secure, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed since the days of the Ford Model A: tires are the only parts that touch the road.

That means that tires are still the some of the most important components of your vehicle. And that means that regular tire maintenance during a speedy oil change is one of the best ways to make sure that your automobile is operating in as safe a manner as possible.

But you’ve probably heard all that before from your speedy oil change technician. And you’ve probably heard from that speedy oil change technician that rotating your tires regularly is essential to keeping your tires running at the optimal level. Getting regular tire rotations is an easy maintenance procedure that can be done during a speedy oil change and can help a vehicle’s fuel efficiency, increase the level of safety, and lengthen the life of your tires.

But what does “tire rotation” actually mean? What does it do? After all, don’t tires rotate all the time when the vehicle is in motion?

Yes, they do. But that’s not really what “tire rotation,” as it is called during a speedy oil change, means. Tire rotation simply means speedy oil change technicians swap your front tires for your back ones. The rims aren’t removed, and no new tires are added. Some cars, like certain sports cars and hot rods, have rear tires that are larger and different from the front. So tire rotation at a speedy oil change is unavailable for those vehicles. But if you have a normal car, truck or SUV, then getting a tire rotation at your next auto change service should not be a problem.

But why should do you this? Why does the simple swapping of tires during a speedy oil change help those tires last longer? And why is it safer? Aren’t you just using the same old tires?

Yes you are. But keep in mind that most vehicles are either front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. A car that features a front-wheel drive will demand more from the front tires because things like acceleration and braking all fall on the front tires. Since they do all the work, they’ll get more wear and tear than the tires in back, which are allowed to take it easy. Rear-wheel drives, of course, experience the opposite situation, where the back pair takes the brunt of abuse.

And tire rotation during a speedy oil change can even benefit four-wheel drive vehicles. Even though there’s a more even division of labor between the wheels on a four-wheel drive, there are still significant differences in the way front tires operate when compared to the back tires. And it’s a good idea to swap sides as well, as tires can experience wear depending on which side of the vehicle they’re on. That’s why most speedy oil change technicians will swap sides when they move the back tires to the front.

Most speedy oil change centers also offer low-cost or free tire rotation services for the entire life of your vehicle’s tires. These programs are usually a good idea. Speedy oil change and tire dealers want your business, so they’ll often give you breaks on things like tire rotation service. You might have to pay more if you’re still using the original tires that came with your vehicle, but those should be able to be rotated with a speedy oil change.

So how often should you have your vehicle’s tires rotated? The consensus from speedy oil change technicians seems to be that if you are using synthetic oil, which requires less frequent changes, then a tire rotation at every speedy oil change will keep your tires healthy and your car safe. If you’re using regular petroleum-based oil, then every other speedy oil change will do. In other words, you should have your tires rotated anywhere between 6,000 to 10,000 miles.

These standards are usually adhered to when you schedule regular service checks with your speedy oil change center or dealership. Since they may keep track of your mileage and your service schedule, you won’t have to worry too much about your tire rotation schedule.

One easy additional automobile service that should be performed with every tire rotation at a speedy oil change is checking the tire pressure. The raising and lowering of surrounding air temperature, like the changes that take place in the summer and winter, will often make the air pressure in the tires increase or decrease. These fluctuations can cause strain on a vehicle’s tires and, if left unchecked, can lead to tire failure. But not all tires will lose pressure at the same rate. Again, factors like the tire’s placement on the car (on the front as opposed to the rear) and the amount of wear of the tire can also affect the internal pressure of that particular tire. In other words, you may have three tires with an adequate pressure and one that’s in need of some air. A tire with less than optimal tire pressure can create a dip in fuel efficiency, thus a greater chance of tire puncture and dangerous situations like insufficient car handling and breaking.

If you think that your car’s tires may not have optimal tire pressure, the good news is that checking tire pressure can easily be done at home or at any speedy oil change center. All that is required is a tire gauge that can be bought at most hardware and drug stores for just a couple of bucks.

But new tires aren’t cheap. A set of four tires can set you back $250 to $800 depending on your vehicle’s specifications, which is why it is important to extend the life of your tires. An average car will have to have its tires changed every 30,000 to 75,000 miles, which usually means getting a new set of tires every two to four years.

So how do you know when it is time to get a new set of tires? Most speedy oil change service technicians will recommend a decidedly easy and low-tech test. Take a penny and stick it into one of your tire’s treads with Lincoln’s head going in first. If you can still see the top of his head, it means less than 2/32” of tread depth is remaining and it is time to get a new set of tires.

When you get your tires rotated, your speedy oil change service technicians get the chance to glimpse inside your car and discover any other important automotive issues such as suspension problems. If your speedy oil change service technician finds uneven tread along your tires, it could mean a vehicle’s improper alignment or some other steering problem.

Regular tire rotation and general tire maintenance can result in a healthier car that enjoys a long and efficient life. You’ll also have peace of mind, knowing that you are doing all you can to keep your vehicle running safely.

Tohid Vahdatpour asked:

In this experiment, the effects of different levels of fish oil and poultry fat (FO+PF) on the performance and ****** fatty acids composition of broiler chickens assessed. 3% oil in 4 diets were altered with replacing PF by FO (T1=3%PF, T2=2%PF+1%FO, T3=1%PF+2%FO, and T4=3%FO) and were given ad libitum to the birds throughout the growth period. The performance was calculated at 42 d old and the fatty acid profile were determined after withdrawal of FO from the diet (during one -wk) before slaughtering in 49-d old . Higher live weight, weight gain and lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) were recorded for birds T3 (1%PF+2%FO). High FO concentrations (2 and 3% levels) decreased the saturated (SAT) and monounsaturated FA contents (MUFA) and increased the polyunsaturated FA contents (PUFA) , mainly as linolenic acid and long chain n-3 FA ( C22:6n-3 , C22:5n-3 , C20:5n-3 ) in the ****** samples. By replacing the FO diet with the experimental mixture (T2 and T3) and with 3% FO diet (T4), the n-3 and n-6 FA contents increased. However, increase in the amount n-3 FA in compared to n-6 FA contents was doubled in the tissue investigated. Therefore, the n-6: n-3 ratio was decrease to be optimal ratio.

INTRODUCTION

The long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFA) have long been recognized as an important factor in animal feeding. In man and intensively reared animals it appears that diets have become unbalanced in terms of the make-up of fat particularly polyunsaturated fatty acids .The content of omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids has declined and that of omega-6 (n-6)fatty acids increased. By supplementing with fish lipids which are rich in LC n-3 PUFA, the balance can be restored (Bezard et al, 1994; Toncer et al, 1987; Manilla et al, 1999 and Lopez Ferrer et al, 2001).

Fish oil, source of the n-3 fatty acids are supplied as alpha linolenic acid (C18:3 n-3, LNA), eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5 n-3, EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6 n-3, DHA) and poultry fat contain the n-6 fatty acids mainly linoleic acid (C18:2 n-6, LA) and arachidonic acid (C20:4 n-6, AA). With use from fish oil will ensured optimal ratio of n-6: n-3 in diet and increase of effectiveness of linolenic acid. Several studies with diets rich in LNA have failed to control of n-3 and n-6 FA content in chicken tissues (Ajuyah et al, 1993; Scaife et al,1994 and Lopez Ferrer et al 1991). The use of fish oil (the main source of LC n-3 PUFA) is restricted due to odor constraints in the final product (Hargis and Van Elswyk, 1993).

Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of use from a composition of oil/fat tobe replacing FO with PF to evaluate the effect on broiler carcass fatty acid composition and to determine optimal level of dietary fat to ensure of EPA and DHA amounts and reduce of n-6: n-3 ratio of chicken meat. Their effect on performance was also evaluated.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Fish oil supplied with collaborator of MEHREGANE KHAZAR (BANDAR ABBAS) company and poultry fat purchased at SEFIDAN MORGE TABRIZE industrial slaughtering unit. This oils stored in dark station at 40c until to mixing with diet.

A total of five handered unsexed one-d-old ROSS ****** were obtained from a commercial hatchery (SAMIN Hatcheries Co., MARAGEH). The ****** were fed a common basal broiler starter diet from 1 to 20 days (starter period). At 21d , 160 male chickens were sexed and randomly resigned to cages of 1×1×0/8 meters (10 per cage) and fed experimental diets [ diets of containing 3%PF(T1) , 2%PF+1%FO(T2) , 1%PF+2%FO(T3) and 3%FO(T4) ] throughout a 21-d growth period . The experimental diets formulated tobe isonitrogenouse (19/5 %CP) and isoenergetic (3136 kcal/kg ME), in accordance with the 1994 recommendations of the National Research Council (NRC). The birds were given access to water and diets ad libitum. The composition and calculated nutrient composition of the treatment diet is shown in Table 1.

Chemical Analysis

A GC apparatus consisting of a Dany GC-1000 (Italy), equipped with FID detector, data processor (DS-1000, Dany), hydrogen generator model GLAIND-2200 (Italy) and a split/split less injector was used. Separations of fatty acids were performed on An Altech Econo-Cap, EC-1000 capillary column (30 m×0.25 mm i.d., film thickness 0.25 μm).

Methanol, n-heptan, diethylether and other chemicals were all from E. Merk (Germany). Fatty acid standards mix was purchased from supelco co. High pure helium (99.999%) was from Roham Gas Co. (Midde East Dubai, United Arab Emirates).

The total lipid fraction was extracted according to Folch et al. method [1957]. For determination of fatty acids about 500 mg of the samples were freeze-dried and extracted with chloroform-methanol mixture (2:1). After vaporization of solvent derivatization reaction was carried out on residue by adding 1 ml of potassium hydroxide 2 M in pure methanol and then shacked for 1 h at room temperature (25±1˚C). The methyl esters were extracted in 3×0.5 ml n-heptan and 1 µL was injected to GC.

The initial column temperature was maintained at 75 ˚C for 1 min and then raised at 30 ˚C / min to 182 ˚C and held for 8 minute and temperature was then increased at 7.5 ˚C / min to 200 ˚C and held 1 min. Helium was used as carrier and makeup gas, which their flow rates are 1.2 ml/min and 25 ml/min respectively. The injector and detector temperature were held at 250 ˚C and 260 ˚C respectively. Injections of samples were made in split less mode.

Statistical Analysis

The experiment was based on a completely randomized design. The experimental unit being the pen average for each performance variable. The data were analyzed by means of one-way ANOVA. When analysis of variance indicated a significant treatment the means were compared by multiple range tests. Significance was accepted at the 5% confidence level. The data are expressed as means and their standard errors (SE).

RESULTS and DISCUSSION

Fatty acid composition of supplemental fats

The fatty acid profiles of the test oil and fat show that the poultry fat (animal origin) used in this study are rich in linoleic acid, C18:2n-6 and fish oil (Marin origin) have high concentrations of linolenic acid (LNA, C18:3n-3) and long-chain n-3 PUFA naming eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA, C20:5n-3), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA, C22:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6n-3) (Table2). These data are consistent with those obtained in other studies (Phetteplace and Watkins, 1990; Olomu and Baracosa, 1991; and Manilla et al, 1999). Since the fatty acid composition of broiler chicken carcass may be influenced considerably by that of the diet (Miller and Robish, 1969; Hargis and Elswyk, 1993), it is expected that diets containing oils and fat of different origin will influence carcass fatty acid composition, reflecting their predominant fatty acids. On the other hand, The PUFA content was also obtained from direct deposit from dietary fat and, to a much lesser extent, from de novo synthesis through elongation and desaturation from the other groups as reported by Lopez-Ferrer et al (2001).

These are just SOME of the various oral health care benefits that Oil Pulling can have. The power of oil pulling however is not simply limited to oral care, here are some of the other health care issues Oil Pulling will cure/treat:

Sinus Problems

Chronic Diseases

As you can see, the benefits of Oil Pulling are unparalleled and should be done by everybody on a daily basis, you have absolutely nothing to lose! Lucky for you, oil pulling only involves one ingredient, OIL! There is ABSOLUTELY nothing else you need (I will show you where to purchase the oils for CHEAP). In addition, you are not limited to just one type of oil. Sesame, Olive, Sunflower, and Coconut oil can all be used, it is up to you. Also, ONE bottle of oil can last you MONTHS since you will be only using 1-2 tablespoons per day. I used to suffer from many chronic health problems. Unfortunately, cleanses did not really work for me no matter how many I tried. However, Oil Pulling was my saving grace and still is until this day I encourage you all to explore this with open minds. With only using 15-25 minutes of your time daily, you have nothing to lose!

I need to get tape off my wall and people made the suggestion that I use vegetable oil to remove it. Now I have stains on my wall from the vegetable oil. I am also wanting to paint the wall but do not want it to soak through to the new paint.
