John H asked:

I have a VW Jetta.

I was pretty much out of oil, so I started filling it up. Then I realized the dipstick wasn’t really marked, and checked the manual.

Long story short, I put almost twice too much oil in it than what is supposed to be in there. I plan on making an appointment tomorrow and then going to get my oil changed and such.

My question is, will having that much oil in my car be a severe issue driving less than a mile to the place?

During normal driving, I have noticed my oil pressure warning light coming on. This has happened twice, the most recent time the light flickered for about 2 minutes and then went off. Dip stick showed normal oil level both times. I have a chrysler Cirrus.

What’s the best weight oil to run in a Chevy 350? I’ve been using 10w30 for years but some say it may be to heavy for winter. I need a quality year round oil.

I need to get tape off my wall and people made the suggestion that I use vegetable oil to remove it. Now I have stains on my wall from the vegetable oil. I am also wanting to paint the wall but do not want it to soak through to the new paint.

How does old oil, assuming that there is enough oil, create anything more than a negligible affect on fuel economy?
The reason I ask is because It seems like that always gets made a red herring when trying to locate an actual tangible malfunction in the engine’s operation.

I got an oil change then when I got home I noticed there was smoke coming up from under the hood. I checked under the hood but can’t tell where the smoke is coming from. My brother said they probably just spilled some oil and it’s burning off. But this has never happened to me after an oil change. Could it really be just some spilled oil or could they have messed something up?

The oil pump, pick up tube and screen have all been replaced along with new oil and filter with no improvement. Idle is fine and pressure was checked and was ok. Failure occures only after steady driving then coming to a complete stop. Oil pressure gauge drops to zero and “check gauges” light comes on. Increase the rpms a little and the gauge corrects. Any ideas?

Louis L asked:

Forget about mileage. Let’s focus on time.
Is there an oil out there that lasts a year?
I only drive 3000 miles per year.
My owner’s manual says every 5000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.
The car has 93,000 miles on it. I heard that synthetic oils are not good choices for cars with high mileage. How about synthetic blends?
All I want is an oil that is suitable for my car and will maintain its properties for a year given that it’s rarely driven.
