oil
funnyboy875 asked:

Can you substitute extra virgin olive oil for vegetable oil in a recipe…I am making a recipe of potato salad that uses e.v.o.o. and I don’t have it, can I just use vegetable oil?

In this case, it sounds like a French Potato Salad, where the dressing is olive oil and vinegar, in which case the olive oil is an important flavor component.

However, you can use veggie oil (or a bottled Italian salad dressing if you have it). I would just make up for losing the olive oil flavoring by adding extra herbs and seasonings to boost the flavor.

You can…to an extent…if the recipe is using the olive oil for flavoring, then the vegetable oil will not be a good substitute, since it does not have much of that.

If the oil is being used solely as fat/oil, then yeah it should work fine.

I would definitely use less vegetable oil than what is called for in olive oil. Eye it and taste it along the way.

Sure, oil is oil. EVOO is just richer and will give more depth to whatever you make with it.

Yes, it won’t make that much of a difference. The olive oil has a bit more flavor, while the vegetable oil has practically none. No one will know the difference. Really !!

@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn’t write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.

The beauty of these blogging engines and CMS platforms is the lack of limitations and ease of manipulation that permits developers to implement rich subject material and ’skin’ the website in such a way that with extremely little effort one would never notice what it’s making the web site tick all with out limiting written content and effectiveness.
