oil
bjmarchini asked:

My parents bought me deep fryer for christmas, and I am setting it up. It is a pretty nive digital one, not the little round ones for 20 bucks at walmart.

Should I use vegetable oil, or another kind? I know there is one oil that is really bad for you (i think it is corn).

I worked in restaurants when I was a kid and know to filter the oil to keep it clean. How long should I keep the oil? I hold about a gallon to gallon and a half of oil. Should I keep it in the fridge when not in use or leave it in the fryer with the lid closed? I plan on using it maybe 2-3 times per week.

Well shortening fries wonderfully but the whole transfat thing has pretty much cancelled that out. The best vegetable oil for frying is peanut–it maintains a good neutral flavor even when raised to pretty high heats.

I always use vegetable oil.
If you use the deep fryer just a few times a week, then you could probably change the oil once every month. It should be fine that way.

I like to deep fry in peanut oil because it can withstand heat better, it doesn’t burn up. If you plan to use it often just keep it covered and when it is dirty throw it out. I would only fry with it about 3 time at the most. And I would only fry the same thing. I would not fry chicken in fish grease and vice versa.

canola oil.

if you cook meat in the oil… throw it out after you use it that day.

if you only fry potatoes , its ok to keep a week. Keep it covered but no need to refrigerate.

why use so much oil? You can use a little and it will still cook just fine.

My uncle got a deep fryer for Christmas and Ibelieve he uses vegetable oil and corn, maybe?Otherwise, I think peanut oil as well. I’m not quite sure. I think he changes the oil each time, unless he’s doing a few things right after the other, so every day he uses it he’ll change it. But his may be a little smaller.

Peanut oil is usually preffered, although vegtable oil can be substituted if one has a peanut allergy or finds the price to be too high. These oils are preffered because of the neurtal flavor and high smoke point.

Depending on what you are frying, I would suggest changing the oil every couple of times you use it, probably every week to a week and a half. Ive found using it anymore than 4-5 times drastically changes the texture of the food.

I prefer peanut oil and have even used olive oil for deep frying. YES…I have even used olive oil. I prefer them solely because I like the taste. You can use any oil you are accustomed to. You can save the oil if you like. If your fryer has a fitted lid that is not attached to the fryer itself…then just keep the oil in the fryer. If your fryer has one of those lids that are connected to the fryer and does not really have a good seal on them…I would transfer the oil to a coffee can or jar of some sort and save to use again. I would say you could easily cycle your oil for 4 to 6 uses after which I would ditch and start with fresh.

I use peanut oil, because if you use that whatever you cooking doesn’t have as many oil bubbles in it or on it. Keep the oil for a couple months, it makes it’s own “seasoning”. when you want to save it you could put it in the frig with tin foil on it. Or you can keep it on your countertop’s sideboard covered.

I’ve been exploring on the internet looking to get some ideas on the way to get our web site coded, your overall design and style together with style are fantastic. Did you code it your self or did you hire a coder to get it done for you?
