name and consistancy engine oil isthicker and tougher. they both have a similar job. getting rid of friction. but engine oil is more heavy duty.
You must be a bit more specific because both are lubricators…but basically engine oil is the oil you put into your engine (aka crankcase) and a lubricating oil is for assembly of parts or used for lubricating noisy, friction vulnerable surfaces….heres an example…
Engine oil is rated by weight/viscosity and has a title such as 5W-30, 15W-40 etc.
Lubricating oil in a simple form is WD-40…you know, that all purpose stuff for door hinges all the way down to loosening tight bolts…hope this clears up your confusion
Lubricating oil is an unspecific, broad term pertaining to ANY liquid lubricant used for lubrication of anything, e.g. light oil for sewing machines, silicon oil for plastic guides, EP oil for transmissions… It describes the physical form (liquid), but provides no clues as to its purpose and nature, so any conclusion nad/or action based on this term may prove wrong and damaging if applied on machinery. (A more generic term would be lubricant, which leaves obscure even the physical aspect: liquid or solid)
Engine (aka crankcase) oil is a more specific term related to the IC (internal combustion) engines: diesel and gas, including their varying developments: LPG, NCG… It defines the product purpose (to lubricate internally the engine parts), but without telling anything on its nature: mineral, semi- or full-synthetic, its API rating (aka “weight”) e.g. 5W40, 10W50 etc.
So before doing anything, check your engine specs; they also tell you the quantity you need.
This applies to lawn mowers, ship’s engines and whatever is between the two.
nothing!, just a different way of saying it. engine oil is lubricating oil.
