We get 30% of our domestic oil from off-shore drilling of the Gulf Coast (Texas, New Orleans…), and that is just the sections that are allowed. That is right, 30% of our domestic oil. In the beginning, those against the Gulf Coast Ocean drilling never imagine that much. So, consider how much we could get from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. And that isn’t just oil, but, also, natural gas. Drilling will not solve the problem but it will sure make us less dependent of the lovely Middle East.

Oil is down right now but it will never, NEVER stay this low. Peak Oil is real and a major problem facing the world. The price may stay deflated for a year or so because of our sagging economy but rest assured it will soar upward big time.

Short-sighted, you are… The direction of oil is UP. WAY WAY WAY UP. It has been happening for years now. So I don’t even need to say “just you wait.” As soon as the recession starts to level out, watch oil start REALLY picking up the pace. We WILL be wishing oil were back down at $147 come 2010.

I feel the focus on cars is a little overblown. Importing food is probably the number one misuse of oil in the USA. SUVs are bad, but the lumbering trucks going from california to who knows were full of frozen strawberries… now thats wasteful. I would suggest getting at least 30% of your food from a local source. So if you can check out your local farmers market, make a few valuable friends. Also supporting local farmers is a great way to keep capitol in your local system.

Agreed, The economic side is still being shaken. Mid next year all the cobwebs should be out. Then watch oil rise and rise it will! Food will obviously also rise. We need Hydrogen cars / solar - we need them now!

Fantastic vid! Most people don’t realize the impact bio-fuels have on food prices. And who’s bright idea is it to cure our oil dependence by providing more oil? It’s like “curing” a heroin addict by giving him more heroin.

That is still WAAAAAY above what it was just a few years ago. This is a cycle, its growing more unstable each time it runs through. This low price is just killing more investment.

I’m not interested in the short term bullshit like what happened this summer or what is happening now. They are crests and trows of the waves. When all of the assets being shook loose from the stock crash cycle out, then this dollar rally will end oil hasn’t really started rising yet. Give it time.
