MEGA DISASTERS explores the worst of what could happen. “The oil that runs our world won’t last forever. The gap between supply and demand is ever-growing. Even without increasing our current rate of consumption we will empty the Earth’s large but finite reservoirs in a relatively short time. Will alternative energy save us or is it already too late? What would happen to the world as we know it when our oil dependent industries come to a grinding halt? A worldwide depression is a certainty …

Yeah yeah that’s the same tune you people have been singing from the 60’s and so far everything is alright. It’s “the world is gonna end in 10 years!!!!!!!!!” every time, and every time the world’s end is postponed by another 10 years.

So I hope you enjoy living in your fantasy. I know I’m going to become a transhuman at any cost, even if it means turning this mudball we call a planet into a radioactive wasteland.

no, this is deadly serious. If you haven’t done your research on peak oil, you better start learning. This is a crisis about to hit us right square in the face. You don’t hear about it from political leaders because they dont want a panic. The illusion of safety is what people want to hear. The truth is, we are in deep trouble. About every person on the planet will be affected except people who live in tribes far away from civilization.

it’s going to go up in price again. If the economy turns around soon, its going to get back up there to $5.00 real quick.

download the whole episode for $2.00 on itunes. And. . .spread the word on this. This is serious ****. Imagine where the price of oil and demand would be if we hadn’t entered recession last year! This **** is going to bite us.

I’d say blame that RETARD George W. Bush for not exploring alternatives sooner

I’d love to argue with you, but I’m just going to give up and say “Fuck you” and then laugh in your face when it kicks you in the ***.

That’s nonsense O_o

What you’re saying basically, you want to regress to an agrarian society. Never! We need nuclear power. That will solve our dependency on oil and any imaginary environmental issues to shut up the green crowd.

ERICH

The solution isn’t to replace our dependence on oil. Like the video said, conservation is half the solution, and learning to work with nature instead of against it is the other half. Re-inventing agriculture and business to respect the cycle of life and being ecologically and economically smart hold the key. It’s going to take each and every one of us planting gardens for food, re-using our greywater, driving less and walking more, and becoming more energy independent, not just oil independent.

what does everyone think about this?… are they being too over the top?

MostlyWicked on 22 August, 2009 at 4:59 am #

EARNEST

Solar and wind energy produces ridiculously small amounts of power, they’re not going to replace anything. There are two solutions to this: more nuclear power plants, and start drilling in Alaska and other places with huge untapped oil reserves. Of course there would be idiots opposed to this for various illogical and sentimental reasons. Their voices should be ignored if we want to survive.

Perhaps President Obama should be using billions of taxpayer funds to research an effective solution to peak oil and not using it to bail out the major auto manufacturers. Hes trying to put out a fire with gasoline. Pardon the pun.
The issue isn’t our supply of oil, its our supply of CHEAP OIL..Cheap oil is gone and it aint comin back. We should be using our last reserves of it to lay the framework and infrastructures of the new age of sustainable existence. Common sense loses again.

You should finish your homework. Even if we converted all arable land on earth to ethanol production and left nothing for food, we could only run a small percentage of the cars we currently have on the road. I agree American engines are too large but it would take more energy to make new cars at this point. We need to stop buying new cars and restrict personal vehicle usage. Too bad America has designed their whole country around the automobile; they are screwed.

Oil is not necessary to drive vehicles. We can use ethanol .We can use vegetable oil as well. That video was made to make oil lobby happy and let them to make money.Prices of oil has fallen sharply over last 6 months. The other thing is :why You dear americans have to use so fuel-consumed cars.Ford focus uses 46 british miles to gallon and You called that “good economy”?We have in Europe 1.9 TDI engines that have 65 miles to galon and 1.4TDI Audi A4 that uses only 78 miles to british galon

I saw a low yield atomic blast in my sleep last night. Consider this: the banks own oil stock. Any oil alternative would lower their position. Free energy would destroy our capitalistic dreams. Free energy is the key to life.

yes you bring up a good point we do have enough oil atm to keep the world going for another 100-200 years.

government is SOOOOO stupid
I mean COME ON!!!! people right now are working on solar and wind energy. people are also making lithium battery-powered cars. we are gonna get through this. and we have more than enough oil to keep things going for a long time.

So if the goats don’t take their medicine, will their methane become biohazardous?

ANDERSON

**not true. there IS enough oil to last us for a long time, but the government always seems to find a way to keep things secret. its just another fucking government scare tactic**
actually when I saw this on Tv(and was laughing so hard I fell off the couch), It was sponsered by Chevron (Geothermal),BP(SOlar power/Wind),Shell(natural gas), The Picken’s plan(Shell Windmills),Waste management(wates to energy),and Exxson (Nuclear/Wind/Solar)
Think again on who has the most to gain.
