Excelent video!!!! I would only change educate women (lower fertility rate) to educate people since they are kids. Sadly reproduction is a cultural thing (well seen) and even religion avoids people using methods to prevent pregnacy.
I agree with elyohc.. it is a bit boring to hear with that voice, but I think it’s good for people who aren’t native speakers, he speaks slow so they can understand. Overall well done, five stars to you.

Good solid video….but do the world a favour and get a presenter that can speak interestingly or, at least, one that doesn’t have a serious head cold!

Indeed, it seems that we won’t run out of oil as fast as we expected, but that’s mainly because of the collapse of demand due to the economic crisis.
The problem with unconventional sources is that the amount of energy we collect is only slightly superior to the energy required to get the energy in the first place (low EROI). Canada’s oil sands are huge reserves but very inefficient. Plus, they require the destruction of immense forest and large amount of water.

DOUGLAS

Anyone else notice the narrator has to specifically point out that Canada’s conventional oil peaked, but not their oil production as a whole. It’s as if we can get oil from other places. Sure, we’re better off not using oil at all, but we’re not running out nearly as fast as some people want you to believe.

That is an extremely optimistic view. Advanced Nanotechnology is more than a decade away, and even then it will take another decade to implement it, all the time oil consumption rises and resources deplete! It would be foolish to rest on the distant hopes of scientists when the problem we face lies in the here and NOW! Every single aspect of our modern life, whether it be agriculture, transport, or leisure requires unfathomable amounts of OIL.

I agree. However it takes vast amounts of energy (oil) to do all of this growing and harvesting. That is why it has to be done NOW, whilst we still have the resources to do it. However in the current climate, no changes will be made. It is most likely that the coming few years all government attention will be on getting out of the economic ditch we are currently in. This HAS to be done NOW before we run out of time. Unfortunately Peak Oil is thought of as scaremongering and no changes are made

people are surching for a new type of fuel to replace oil when its all gone

Algae biodiesel can easily replace the need for fossil fuels in the U.S. within the next decade. It is the most ubiquitous natural resource on Earth, grows and can be harvested extremely fast (much faster than any food source), and can easily be used to produce almost any product that can be made from petroleum. Keep in mind that as it scales up, along with other alternative fuels, the demand for gasoline goes down and the supply stabilizes.

the real question is, on which nouveau we will land.
i personally think, that we will could still hold our way of life with one fourth of our energy consumption, the rest must be replaced in longer term by regenerative energy resources. when that will happen not, our society will collapse like the antic europe around 600 bc.

Everyone thinks that because there are new technologies, they will live better without consequences but they forget that everything has its own price and now it is only the beginning of apocalypse.
Tomorrow, when we will run out of oil,we will be dead, not human death, but dead on everything new like the way we are living or the things we are buying.
let’s say that if today my opinion on life is grey coloured, tomorrow it will be blackened, deeply and completely…

“madness”? You’re too vague! Technology will help bring clean and healthy energy sources to the world. There has been madness since the beginning of time and they’ve predicted the end of the world every decade for the past 10,000 years. Nothing is different in the world, except people wanting the end of the world to happen because they have nothing going on in their own lives.

and you ,have you heard about madness contaminating people all across the globe???
sure you are part of it

You’re a fool. Technology will now double every 10 years. More changes will be on the way in the next 10 years then the last 100. Have you ever heard of nanotechology dope? You’re mind is in the stone ages.

you are a dremaer my friend
we are going to die that’s the truth

“Big Oil” makes about 3 cents on ever dollar of gas at the pumps after all the costs of refining, shipping, etc, are considered. Your local, state and federal goverment makes about 10 times that through taxing. So why don’t you start questioning your goverment why gas is so high?

The cause of the increase in prices isn’t even a thought of mine. The only thing I am interested in is how the folks making the decisions and profiting on crude oil comprehend the magnitude of a decrease in oil production while demand continues to rise. I also want people who are waiting on the government to “fix” things, to wake up and realize that the problems we face could have been “fixed” if action had been taken long ago. Now it is too late. We are spoiled on oil. Big Babies.

BrightHumanist on 6 October, 2009 at 6:09 am #

CHAD

This unproven optimism is quite typical. Please demonstrate that the increase in prices is solely due to financial speculation and I may believe you.

Everyone talks about energy, but crude oil is used to make things too. What good would it be to convert cars to run on electricity if most of the parts (tires, dash, hoses, etc.) are made of oil. Do people actually think that a nuclear power plant doesn’t posess anything made of crude oil. Roads are paved with tar, how will we repair them for our electricity fueled cars to run on? Check out the video “The Marijuana Conspiracy” to see what happens to alt. evergy that doesn’t profit the few.

ANIBAL

We are specs on a tic. To think we tapped the Earth’s resources is a pure joke. We may have exhausted cheap ways of obtaining energy but with technology it will get easier.

I have to say this is the most concise video I’ve seen yet. Encompasing and simple, just the way the masses need it.

Thanks

Actually, I was not clear in my first sentence. Money gets printed when money gets deposited in a bank and loaned out to eight to ten people. The printed money gets destroyed when the loans are paid back.

The problem with government loans to make war is that the money is spent once the million dollar munition is exploded. But with a real investment - teaching someone how to read, sending someone to college, stopping an illness.. That investment continues to pay back into the economy.

Milofonbil, would you be willing to do a nice video on peak uranium?

BrightHumanist on 10 October, 2009 at 8:51 pm #

BRANDON

Well, if you create a dollar bill burning engine, you could eventually increase your fuel during hyperinflation.

ARON

The majority of the secondary sources are dismantled nuclear weapons and what little known reserves are left. Eleven countries have run out of uranium already. There are only 22 countries that have uranium left. Many of them have already hit peak production.

I don’t understand how you get hundreds of years when most scientists are predicting figures much sooner.
