A glass/plexiglass fish tank gives good a good visual appearance, but poor thermal conductivity. It should be possible to make an immersed, passively cooled computer. Use a sturdy aluminum box to hold the computer components and oil. Then attach large heat sinks to box. If the thermal resistance is low enough then fans, pumps and radiators wouldn’t be needed. In other words: make the case a radiator. Ideally, this radiator/case would be extruded from a single piece of Al.
why don’t you freeze the mineral oil in ice trays, and then dump them in or something

No, the oil doesn’t conduct electricity at all, therefore it doesn’t damage ANY components or wiring on your computer. Even the fans are fine.
He’s using mineral oil, but I think I have seen it done with vegetable oil.

Whats oil can take the coldest temperatures before becoming to sticky to move past a fan. Considering dumping a refrigeration coil in the oil and attaching a grid of fans and a immersion pump to force oil past it wihile still in the tank. Opinions?
do u put the dvd drive in the oil too? or do you put it above the oil?
The fans help circulate the heat around the aquarium.
why dont you disable the fans?; no dust is getting near those parts lol

looks like u got that oil outa ur car lawl!!!! its better to use clear mild laxative mineral oil. its clear and i think it works better, also you can chuck ur hold computer into a fish tank and fill it up with the oil i sed above and it will work alot better with no noise, no dust, and is more efficiant.
naver72, oil does not conduct electricity making this actually possible, this is a true video guys its new stuff that is making computers alot more efficeant. the fastest computer atm had a oil based cooling system. just woundering though, with this mineral oil they use for it can u just use it on any computer system??? or do u have to have specific oil compatible hardware or somthing????
maybe thats something for people that is alergic to electrisity?
SSD’s are expensive, really expensive, a 130gb one is over 1000 dollars
pretty nice, but i would add a watercooling pump and rad to cool the oil, sure you’ll have like 1-3 120mm fans running, but you should be able to push it harder too, personally i use a headset all the time anyways so fan noise dont bother me at all
