September 2006
Is the age of cheap oil about to come to an end? According to many experts, we are about to reach the point of “peak oil” — the level at which supply can no longer keep up with demand. This, say the doomsayers, could send economies spinning into turmoil and up-end our comfortable, urban lifestyles. But others claim predictions like this are simply scaremongering. They believe supply will match demand for decades to come. So who’s telling the truth? ‘Peak Oil’ investigates.

War. War never changes.

Peak oil will be resolved politically by global thermonuclear war.

A mercy *******.

Well, let’s see - aerodynamically, most U.S. autos are awful - we should be driving machines with .2 drag coefficient. At 60 MPH. that translates to 16 HP needed (compared to .45 drag coef. which is roughly 53 HP @ 60 MPH for a typical SUV). Using high-compression engines, true hybrids with lithium-Iron phosphate batteries & carbon nanotube supercapacitors, refined aerodynamics - we should be able to achieve 120 MPG, supplemented w/solar-electric. We need government supported market forces.

anyone have an idea why the opec nations are not making the investments necessary to increase prod. capacity? I hear it was due to a low oil price in the 90s and early 2Ks. I dont buy it, the increase in the price of oil has been expected by all (thus justifying the invetment that was never made). My belief is that the OPEC nations are running out quicker than they let on. They have much fewer reserves than they report as their production quotas are limited based on their stated reserves.

records have shown that the production in my wells from the 50’s have went up i have no dought that we will hit peak i just think it will be a long time

It would be a chain reaction, one bank would fail, and another one would fail, industries will close” Dr. Colin Campbell, geologist, ASPOs founder (2006)

vidsurf111 on 20 August, 2008 at 1:17 pm #

And at what percent are your wells producing compared to the 50’s? It’s not a matter of not getting any oil, its a matter of getting less and less.

drselahi on 21 August, 2008 at 10:07 pm #

So youre just going to dismiss what all these geologists, econimists and even oil ministers have been saying because of your own personal experience? Science isnt based on anecdotal stories from individuals. Search youtube for a documentary called “understanding peak oil” and watch the 8 parts. Please let me know why they are wrong.

I bet he also thinks there is no recession, no global warming, or that cigarettes dont cause cancer.

oney135 on 27 August, 2008 at 11:59 pm #

Hello - Welcome to Mr Clueless.

Proof that the village is still breeding idiots.

Try at least do some research before you type in complete nonsensical bollocks - I’m sure that you are the guy in the white singlet at 4:16.

ATTENTION: Apparently chevron oil (corrupt American oil company) bought the rights to NiMH battery technology so they could prevent auto manufacturers from using it to build more efficient hybrid vehicles and force us to keep buying gasoline. The name of the company that produced the NiMH batteries used to be Ovionic Battery Systems, but Chevron and Texaco bought the company and changed the name to Cobasys and made it impossible for auto manufacturers to buy the batteries. Search it for yourself

The only thing thats driving up the price to this level is speculation.
There is no “oil crisis” happening you morons. If there was a “crisis” why do we still see just as many cars on the road? and to top that off, oil companies have posted record profits year after year after year.

At the turn of the twentieth century, who had the light bulb? Britain, the United States, and Cuba. Who had automobiles? Once again Britain, the United States, and Cuba. Just look at what socialism/communism does to great nations! It drains their minds, and their wealth like fleas! Freedom for all mankind!

My fellow US citizens demand a vote of NO CONFIDENCE! The candidates are not qualified for the position!

sierracuban on 8 September, 2008 at 4:27 am #

Very good facts here….Obama is nothing but a PHONEY….He reminds me of Fidel Castro, and the CHANGE which he promised the Cuban people….And all of these liberal IDIOTS believe him….

BanjoNaps on 9 September, 2008 at 5:46 pm #

nice try. All you did is described Mercantalism. Were as there is a finite amount of wealth that must be plundered via any means. Completely exhausted in natural resources? By what do you mean as resources? Oil and iron ore deposits were mysterious gods to mankind only a few thousand years ago. Their are ENDLESS possibilities. The only infinite we truly know about is human potential. If you don’t believe in capitalism, fine. But for the sake those who do and have new ideas. GET OUT OF THE WAY!

WolYou on 10 September, 2008 at 3:49 am #

BanjoNaps: In th economists world there is only artificial capital. Natural capital is not an issue. Capitalism is a synonym for “strength through exhaustion”. The US is completely exhausted in terms of resources, social facilities and politics. Work - in the meaning of todays voluntary enslavement - is not going to save anyone. People knows **** about the dependency they’ve created between their lives and oil. Communism would preserve natural resources. Capitalism is wasting them.

camaney76210 on 12 September, 2008 at 7:06 pm #

Are YOU FREAKING SERIOUS!!!! Where do you get your information from a ferry godmother!! simple example the U.S.A right now consumes 21million barrels of oil a DAY!! It only produces 6, thats a difference of 15. I don’t know what world you live in but it isn’t this one.

BanjoNaps on 14 September, 2008 at 11:05 am #

Sorry, but free market CAPITALISM made the US rich and powerful in the 19th century. Its been the onset of of highly regulated socialist MERCANTALISM of the 20th century that has brought on this monopolized transportation you speak of. Obama is a communist and you know it. He can’t give you what he promises because their isn’t anyone to steal from anymore. Face it. WORK OR DIE.

I’ve invested in Quantum fuel systems on the Nasdaq. While the world talks about Hydrogen Cars here in America we are building them!
